Prayer Requests

A long-time mentor of Pastor Epi’s passed away last week. He was only in his early 30’s and leaves behind a wife and 2 small children. Please pray for his family and friends.

Continue to pray for Elizabeth Dirks, as she battles a bug that has been hanging on for several weeks. There is still quite a bit of infection in her throat and ear. Pray for complete healing, that the latest round of antibiotics will be effective.

Ernie Richter is in need of prayer. He has returned home from a recent hospital stay, and in the care of hospice, and does not have much longer in this world. Please pray for the family as they prepare for his home-going to Jesus. He does have a Facebook page, so if you would like to friend him and send him messages, the family will read them to him. He does look forward to hearing from people. Ernie taught in the Ambassadors College Group here at Bethany many years ago.

Pray for those in financial need in our congregation. Pray for healing of financial problems, for needed jobs.

Family Memory Verse

Our Children’s Ministries is focusing on one verse or passage per month, and is encouraging the whole family to learn it.  This is meant for the families of our children, but how wonderful would it be to know that our whole Church body was learning God’s Word!

May’s Children’s Ministries Family memory verse is Matthew 28:19-20 – “Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”

This is a parent/child time, so one parent or guardian is required to attend class with their child. The next session runs May 1 – May 24. The cost for the session is $56. The class is held in A-1 and meets from 9:30 to 11:30 am. Contact Marthel D’Arezzo in the School office – 626-355-3527, ext. 1653 – for registration.

Eric passed away in June of 2010 after being diagnosed in April of 2010. For more info, see the website or the flyer on the Cafe bulletin board.

BLOOD 4 BIBLES
We are working in conjunction with Sierra Madre Congregational Church to raise money for Elam Ministries to send bibles to Iran. We are doing it by way of a blood drive. By donating blood, you will enable Elam Ministries to send 4 bibles to Iran. There will be a van here at Bethany Church on Sunday, June 3, from 8:30 am to 2:30 pm. There will be a signup sheet in the Lobby. Or you can sign up online at www.bloodForMissions.org. They are asking that everyone sign up, so they have an idea of how many people to expect for supplies, etc. This is a fabulous way to raise money for a wonderful cause.

ZIMBABWE TRIP UPDATED NEEDS
Numerous items are still needed for the short-term missions trip planned in June. These items ultimately will be delivered to the village medical clinics and the people there, with an emphasis on widows and orphans. Many of these over-the-counter items can be purchased at your local drugstore and brought to Bethany anytime before June 1. Especially needed are children’s multivitamins, adult’s multivitamins, iron supplements, and bars of soap.
The Missions Board will be hosting a bake sale during the Cafe next Sunday, May 20. Donations of goodies would be much appreciated!! You can bring them by A-1 on Sunday before or during the Cafe. We appreciate your support!

Missions Updates

Missionary of the Week
Jerry & Elizabeth Dirks
TEAM - Meco, Spain
Jerry works at the Christian Academy in Meco teaching shop classes and helping maintain the buildings. Both Jerry and Elizabeth have a friendship evangelism in place with several unsaved couples.  Elizabeth hosts a children’s English class in their home. She writes:  Thank you so much for praying. Ever since taking the antibiotics, I have felt MUCH better. Yesterday, the EENT doctor told me that, although there is still a good amount of infection in my throat and ear, he was pleased with how things are healing. I will NOT need to go to the hospital. Many of you wrote to share you were praying and concerned. Many here in Spain provided meals. That was something I least expected.

David & Tracy Erickson
Pioneers - Southeast Asia
We have purchased air tickets for first month of Sabbatical:  Bali to Bangkok to L.A. to Chicago to Toronto and back before the start of school on 29 August. The local men’s group is going very well.  The pastors’ accountability group is OK.  Three days in Jak--- last month for training, prayer, and mentoring went very well.  Please pray for:
YOG  16-18 May:  meetings with training alumni, mentoring, half-day seminar I’ll be teaching

Ways You Can Serve

Our food pantry needs filling!  The Bethany Kids Care Team is opening our food pantry to the community. We are accepting both non-perishable and perishable foods. Please support our efforts in reaching out to the less-fortunate in our community. Drop off items in the boxes supplied on Sunday in the foyer or in the church office during the week. This is a new project for our Children’s Ministries. Please pray that it is successful in ministering to our community, and also to our kids who are participating in this outreach.

WORSHIP MINISTRY NEEDS YOUR HELP! If you are willing to serve as a Media Shout operator on Sunday mornings once a month, please contact Suzanne in the Church Office (626-355-1403, ext. 1607), or email her at suzanne@bethanyfamily.com. It is a simple program to learn, but vital to our worship experience on Sunday morning! We are also looking for anyone interested in learning how to run the sound system on Sunday mornings. If this is a way you would like to serve our Church Family, please contact Suzanne.

The Salvation Army has installed a small items collection box in the back parking lot by the Montecito entrance.  If you have items you no longer need, feel free to drop them off at any time.

The Tape Ministry needs someone to help out after 2nd Service, selling tapes and cd’s.  If you are willing to stay after church for 15 minutes, please contact Suzanne in the Church Office, or at 355-1403, ext. 1607.

REMINDER!! Recyclable aluminum cans and water bottles can be dropped in recycling containers at the southwest corner of the Ministry Center that are marked for Missionary Fellowship. These funds are helpful in sending cards and gifts to our missionaries’ children.

If you are not a member of an ABF class, but would still like to help out with our Living Room Café on Sunday mornings, please contact the church office.

We believe that serving others is at the core of what we do here at Bethany. We have a master list of all the service opportunities in the church.  Or check out the Website - www.bethanyfamily.com - "How to Get Connected / Volunteer Center."
